Seeing Red

I love painting reds!  My husband says I like any color as long as it is red.  That is about right!
I wanted to paint more red cardinals but decided to take the steps this time.  I used a piece of brown paper bag to do a little sanding to smooth the surface of the canvas. Doing this little color study, I  became more familiar with the eye and beak area.  I used an analogous color scheme of Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Orange, and Cadmium Yellow.  I used a touch of Viridian to mix with the Alizarin Crimson to make the black. I wish you could see him in all his glory!  He looks like he is going to start chirping any moment!
