People 2

This is the second exercise of the workshop.  This one was about making shapes or gestures that would represent people.  These were from our imagination.  We had about an hour to do this.

People

Today was the first day of our workshop with Michele Byrne on putting people in the landscape in Apalachicola, Florida.  It was pouring rain outside so we didn't have many models who would venture outside.  We stayed in and painted from pictures.  This was my first try at it.  It was an exercise on the people so I didn't pay much attention to the rest of the composition.

The Flowered Pitcher

Day 8

I thought I would set up an easy little still life for this painting.  I am not sure what happened after that.  The shapes, the values and the colors just didn't work.  After I walked away for awhile, I decided it was "just a canvas" and it was not in charge!  I came back and had a little talk with it.   I  corrected some of the shapes, values, and colors and now it reads like it should.  Some days just go easier than others.

Geraniums

My Grandma had geraniums all along the carport on the east side of her house.  She had many different colors.  I have always loved them because they seemed to bloom for a long time.  I buy at least 2 pots a year.  I usually kill 2 pots a year.  They don't like for their roots to be wet so I either overwater them or forget to water them at all.  The only way I will have geraniums is to paint them!
I painted this painting before I went to a workshop where I was planning to use the setup.  I wasn't   happy with the way the light was on the subject so I covered the surface with retouch varnish in order to get good adhesion of the new paint.  I really intended to only do a few touch ups. Somehow that doesn't work for me, so I repainted the complete surface.  I am much happier with the way it is backlit.  Now if only I had a little computer Jeanie that would make the colors correct on the screen, I would be a happy camper!
